The biggest gym chains in India

By published centre counts, the biggest gym chains in India are Cult.fit (700+ centres), Anytime Fitness (close to 200 gyms), Gold's Gym (150+ clubs) and WTF Gyms (60+ gyms). They differ as much in model as in size: company-run, owner-operated franchise, or managed franchise. Counts below are as each source reported them.

India's largest gym chains, ranked by size

The table ranks national gym chains by the number of centres each has publicly reported. Chains count differently (some include partner or franchise centres, some only full gyms), and counts change month to month, so each row names its source and date. We have left out chains whose current count we could not verify from a public source.

Size is only one lens. A chain of 700 centres and a chain of 60 gyms can both be the right partner, depending on what you want: a brand to operate yourself, or an operator to run the gym for you.

The chains, one by one

Cult.fit is the largest fitness network in India by centre count. Its July 2026 IPO filing, as reported by Entrepreneur India, describes more than 700 fitness centres [1], and its franchise page lists 700+ gyms in 60+ cities [2]. Cult runs its own centres and also sells franchises; its franchise page quotes an investment of ₹1.8–3 crore and describes a model where the investor owns the gym and Cult operates it [2]. Cult also has a large app-based digital fitness business alongside its gyms. See our Cult.fit franchise cost page.

Anytime Fitness India is the Indian arm of the global 24-hour gym brand. An April 2026 Outlook India feature put it at close to 200 gyms in 45 cities, serving nearly 175,000 members, with around 50 new gyms planned that year [3]. Anytime clubs are franchise-run. See our Anytime Fitness franchise cost page.

Gold's Gym India is one of the oldest international gym brands in the country. Its franchise page lists 150+ active clubs in 95+ cities across 25 states, with a few more under construction, and publishes three franchise formats: Activ (2,000–3,000 sq ft, about ₹1 crore), Express (3,000–4,000 sq ft, ₹1.5–2 crore) and Regular (5,000–7,000 sq ft, ₹2.5–4 crore) [4]. See our Gold's Gym franchise cost page.

WTF Gyms was founded in 2021 in Noida by Vishal Nigam and runs 60+ gyms with 50,000+ members and an 800+ strong team [7]. It runs gyms across Delhi NCR and in Bangalore today. Its franchise, WTF BLACK, is a managed model: the owner invests ₹50 lakh to ₹4 crore across four formats, and WTF builds, equips with its own Black Edition machines, staffs and runs the gym for a fixed monthly Power Fee. WTF was named Franchise Startup of the Year (Fitness) at Franchise India 2023.

Owned, franchise or managed: how the chains differ

Three ways gym chains grow in India
ModelWho owns the gymWho runs it dailyHow the brand earns
Company-ownedThe chainThe chainMembership revenue
Owner-operated franchiseThe franchiseeThe franchisee or their managerFranchise fee plus a monthly royalty or fee
Managed franchiseThe franchiseeThe chain's own teamA management fee (at WTF, a fixed monthly Power Fee, no royalty)

If you are choosing a chain to invest with, the model matters more than the logo. In an owner-operated franchise, your results depend on your ability to hire, sell and retain members. In a managed franchise, they depend on the operator's track record, so ask how many gyms it runs itself.

WTF charges one fixed monthly Power Fee of about ₹1 lakh to run the gym. It escalates yearly like other operating costs. There is no royalty and no revenue share, so the fee does not grow when the gym's revenue grows.

Operating breakeven, the month revenue first covers running costs, is typically 10 to 18 months depending on format. That is not payback: recovering the capital you put in takes longer, typically about 5 years, and depends mostly on rent and how fast membership ramps.

How big are chains in the overall market?

Even the largest chains are a small part of Indian fitness. The Deloitte and Health & Fitness Association India Fitness Market Report 2025 counts about 46,500 fitness facilities in India [5] and estimates that value gyms make up about 80% of facilities [6]. Membership penetration is about 0.8% of people aged 18 to 62 [6]. Taken together, the four chains above report a little over 1,000 centres, only a few percent of all facilities, which leaves room for branded, well-run gyms to grow. How to choose a gym chain to invest with

  1. 1Decide whether you want to run the gym or own it and have it run for you.
  2. 2Ask for the total project cost for your site, not just the franchise fee.
  3. 3Model the monthly fee at year-three revenue: a royalty grows with revenue, a fixed fee does not but may escalate.
  4. 4Ask how many gyms the brand runs itself and how many franchise gyms are still open after three years.
  5. 5Visit two or three existing gyms of the format you would open, at peak hours.
  6. 6Separate operating breakeven from capital payback, which takes longer.

What is the biggest gym franchise in India?

Are gym chain counts comparable?

Not exactly. Chains count differently, and some include partner or franchise centres. Use counts as a rough guide to scale and check the latest figures with each brand.
